یعنی رویاهای ما کی به واقعیت خواهند پیوست؟

رویایی دارم یکی از سخنرانی‌های مشهور مارتین لوترکینگ (رهبر جنبشِ حقوقِ مدنی در ایالات متحده) در سال ۱۹۶۳ است که در گردهمایی بزرگ طرفداران تساوی حقوق سیاه‌پوستان سفیدپوستان در برابر بنای یادبود آبراهام لینکلن در واشنگتن دی سی ایراد شد. رویایی دارم از مهم‌ترین سخنرانی‌ها در تاریخ آمریکا به‌شمار می‌آید:

من رویایی دارم که در آن روزی این ملت به پا می‌ایستد و زندگی را با معنای حقیقی این اصل اعتقادی‌اش آغاز می‌کند: "ما این حقیقت را بدیهی می‌شماریم که همه انسان‌ها برابر خلق شده‌اند".

من رویایی دارم که در آن روزی بر تپه‌های گلگون جورجیا، فرزندگانِ بردگان پیشین، می‌توانند در کناربرده‌داران پیشین دور یک میز که میز برادری است بنشینند.

من رویایی دارم که در آن روزی ایالت می‌سی‌سی‌پی که اکنون در آتشِ بی‌عدالتی و سرکوب می‌سوزد، به بهشت آزادی و عدالت تبدیل خواهد ‌شد.

من رویایی دارم که در آن روزی چهار فرزند من، در کشوری خواهند زیست که در آن نه برمبنای رنگ پوستشان که براساس منش و شخصیت شان داوری خواهند شد. من امروز رویایی دارم....
